Banwell 'B' Team. Match Reports
Saturday 9th May - Burnham on Sea - Home

A good start for the 'B' team winning on 2 rinks to pick up 10 points
I am told that their was a gritty determination from John Keith and his rink, who finished some half an hour behind everyone else owing to a dispute concerning a bowl in the ditch.
Trevor Burnett, Kim Burgess and Hilary Guckian also had good games on the day

Kim Burgess and his rink won 30 - 20
Jimmy Laurent and his rink lost 16 - 22
Johnny Keith and his rink won 22 - 19

Result: Banwell 68 shots ( 10 points ) - Burnham on Sea 61 shots ( 2 points)

Saturday 16th May - Mark Moor - Away

On a windy, rainy day, with the occasional bouts of sunshine, the 'B' team went down to a stronger Mark Moor side.
On the first rink, Hilary Guckian's team were beaten quite convincingly, while the other two rinks were neck and neck all the way, until Jimmy Laurent and his team dropped a 5 at the 20th end to dash any hopes of picking up a couple of points.
However that wee Scotsman, Johnny Keith and his team picked up a 6 on the final end to give the 'B' team their 2 points.

With Banwell B and St Andrews B very close in North League 2 the home match on Saturday was one to win. Wel started well and were 19 shots ahead after 10 ends. This lead had increased to 27 shots by 15 ends but then St Andrews clawed back some shots, especially on one rink.

J Prescott, G Hill, M Laycock, J Keith won 26 – 16

Saturday 18th July - Clarence - Away

It's a funny old game - we were well beaten on the day by a Clarence side who are top of the league and unbeaten.
We played with one player short - a certain gentleman was told that the game was off (This of course was the Ardagh game) and he took it to mean the league game and so straight away 25% off one rink's score.
And then to cap it all Johnny Keith and his rink looked like salvaging2 points - it was the last end and they were two shots up and holding 2 shots.
"Just a draw with your last wood" requested No 3 Fred Lewis. Well you know what Johnny Keith's drawing shots are like!! It went steaming up the green and smacked the jack five yards to the right and lay alongside 3 of their shots which were nowhere near the head. "Thank you very much" said the opposing skip with a smile on his face - game over!! The comments from the rest of our side are unprintable!!

T Burnett, J.Amos and K.Burgess lost 28 shots to 9
S, Kedward, E.Derham, M.Laycock and G.Millard lost by 24 shots to 11
K.Ruby, G.Hill, F,Lewis and J.Keith lost by 18 shots to 19

Result: Banwell 36 shots (Nil Points) - Clarence 71 shots (12 Points)

Saturday 25th July - Yatton 'B' Home

As I go to press I do not have the details of this game.
But one thing is for sure, we lost on all three rinks and now hover at 3rd from bottom in the league table

Result: Banwell 'B' 44 shots (Nil Points ) - Yatton 'B' 72 shots ( 12 Points )

Saturday 1st August - Congresbury 'B' Home

This was a much needed win to push us up the league table away from the relegation zone. But it was a hard fought win.
Hilary Guckian and his rink had a fine win to secure the game for us, while the other two rinks, were neck and neck all the way.
However Paul Aldus and his rink picked up a five on the last end to secure their win, but Kim Burgess and his rink dropped 6 on the last two ends.

K.Ruby, G.Hill, M.House and H.Guckian won by 27 shots to 16
T.Burnett, J.Prescott, J.Keith and P.Aldus won by 35 shots to 21
T.Garfield, J.Amos, M.Laycock and K.Burgess lost by 18 shots to 24

Result: Banwell 'B' 70 shots ( 10 Points ) - Congresbury 'B' 61 shots ( 2 Points )

Saturday 8th August - Wrington Away

Banwell B sitting just above the relegation zone of North 2 had a challenging visit to Wrington and in a closely fought match came away with a 1 shot win - the game being decided on the last ends. Wrington were ahead by 1 shot after 10 ends with  Wrington rink 3 up by 17 shots. By 20 ends Wrington were still1 shot ahead but rink 4's gap had narrowed to  7
.A fine last wood from Malcolm Laycock to trail the jack and pick up 3 shots effectively won the game for Banwell.

P Cunningham, F Lewis, G Hill, K Burgess 15 - 16
J Prescott, P Arlotte, M House, M Laycock 21 - 13
K Ruby, K Paige, J Amos, H Guckian 19 - 25

Result: Banwell 55 shots (8 Points ) -Wrington 54shots ( 4 Points)

Saturday 15th August - Victoria 'C' Away

Playing away against Victoria C ,The B team fared less well picking up just 1 match point and leaving much to do in the remaining 2 games. Skip Kim Burgess and his rink saw a comfortable lead disappear in the last 6 ends as Victoria C picked up 8 shots to end 23 shots all. John Keith and his rink nearly snatched a late win only to drop 2 shots on the last end to lose 21-22. On Hilary Guckian's rink Victoria were far too strong winning 14 ends for an 18 shot victory.

T Burnett, P Cunningham, J Amos, H Guckian lost 14shots to 32
T Garfield, E Derham, F Lewis, J Keith lost 21 shots to 22
J Prescott, P Arlotte, G Hill, K Burgess drew 23 - 23 all

Saturday 29th August - Isle of Wedmore 'B' - Home

The 'B' team at home against Isle of Wedmore B challenged hard up to 15 ends but a strong comeback saw Isle of Wedmore pick up shots on 2 of the 3 rinks to win by 14 shots. Skip John Keith and his rink had the most success and gained 2 valuable match points.
Much will now rest on Banwell B's final game against Winscombe next week.

J Prescott, C Llewellyn, G Hill, M Laycock lost 13 shots to 28
D Walker, P Arlotte, J Amos, J Keith won 20 shots to 15
T Heal, E Derham, S Kedward, H Guckian lost 17 shots to 21

Result: Banwell 'B' 50 shots ( 2 Points ) - Isle of Wedmore 64 shots (10 points)

Saturday 5th September - Winscombe 'B' - Away

Playing away to Winscombe B in our last match Banwell B needed 2 match points to avoid relegation into North 3, quite a challenge given that Winscombe B had already qualified for promotion next season
John Keith and his rink challenged hard but on two key ends when Banwell were holding several shots Winscombe came back to win the end. Hilary Guckian and his rink came up against 4 players who could do no wrong and by 10 ends they were down by 19 shots. It was left to skip Kim Burgess and his rink to keep Banwell's hopes alive and by 10 ends they were 9 shots up. The second half of the match saw Winscombe B gradually extend their lead to win by 27 shots but crucially Kim and his rink held their nerve to win by 2 shots and gain the vital 2 match points and another season in North 2.

D Walker, P Arlotte, J Amos, J Keith  lost 10 shots to19
K Ruby, M Amos, M Laycock, K Burgess won 16 shots to14
T Garfield, J Prescott, G Hill, H Guckian lost 9 shots to 29

Result: Banwell 'B' 33 shots (2 Points) - Winscombe' B' 62 shots (10 points)
