Details of friendly matches - 2008
Tuesday 22nd April - Congresbury - Home - 5 Rinks

Well what a wonderful start to the season, the weather lifted to give us a warm pleasant evening, and the Banwell side ended up with a fine win
On rinks 4 and 5 Phil Owen and Tony Steer went head to head for the winning rink money, but in the end it was that old campaigner Tony Steer who came out on top.

Result: Banwell 122 shots - Congresbury 89 shots

Saturday 26th April - Winscombe - Away - 6 Rinks

Once again the weather was perfect, warm sunshine, a slight breeze - just right.
The game was close for most of the match, but in the end Banwell just had the edge,
That old war horse John Davies steered his team to the winning rink money.

Result: Banwell 119 shots - Winscombe 110 shots

Wednesday 30th April - Chew Stoke - Home - 4 Mixed Rinks

This was our first proper mixed game and it was enjoyed by everyone. However as the afternoon progressed it got blacker and blacker and the word went out "Finish after 16 ends". As the Captain went past the Vice Captain's rink he just happen to mention "Vice if you drop 4 shots I will win the money".
So what did the Vice do? Yes you got it in one, the old fool dropped 4 shots to make the Captain richer!! Chris Wilson took the money

Resul : Banwell 66 shots - Chew Stoke 58 shotst

Thursday 1st May - Clarence - Home - 4 Rinks

And so our run of wins came to end, throughout the game, 3 of the Banwell rinks were playing catch up, but in the end were beaten.
However it was a different story on the rink skipped by Phil Owen. They stormed ahead to finish 37 -17 shots up and of course deserved the winning rink money

Result: Banwell 77 shots - Clarence 83 shots

Wednesday 7th May - Wookey Hole - Away - 4 Rinks

This was the last time we would visit Wookey Hole, as the owner of the Wookey Hole Caves is to reclaim the green for his own use - the club has been going since 1921 - so a sad time all round.
However the evening was warm and the company good and the game turned out to close, but in the end Wookey Hole ran out the winners.
President Barry Taylor took the winning rink money

Result: Banwell 65 shots - Wookey Hole 77 shots

Thursday 8th May - Wrington - Away - 2 Rinks

This game was a little disappointing as we could only raise two rinks to play away on Wrington's notorious artificial surface, but the game went ahead, and of course we came in 2nd place, but it was a good evening.
As it was only 2 rinks the Vice Captain made the decision not to have a winning rink

Result: Banwell 30 shots - Wrington 45 shots

Tuesday 13th May - Wedmore - Home - 4 Rinks

Fred Lewis was elevated to the high position of Club Captain for the night, but even Fred's magic could not prevent Banwell coming a close second in an enjoyable match. Winning rink skip on the night was Phil Villis who guided his rink to the money

Result: Banwell 60 shots - Isle of Wedmore 68 shots

Saturday 17th May - Nor West - Home - 5 Rinks

This was close well fought game, but in the end Banwell went down on 4 rinks, and Nor West finished more strongly than us.
The only winning rink was skipped by Tony Steer, who motivated his rink to victory in his usual way!!

Result: Banwell 87 shots - Nor West 100 shots

Wednesday 21st May - Victoria - Home - 5 Rinks

After our recent success over Victoria in the North 3 league, we once again came up against them in a friendly.
And once again it looked like being a close game, but the star of the Banwell side had to be Jimmy Laurent , who backed up by fellow Scot, Johnny Keith, powered their way to a 36-10 win to take the money

Result: Banwell 103 shots - Victoria 89 shots

Wednesday 28th May - Mark Moor - Away - 6 Rinks Triples

It has rained in biblical proportions over the last 5 days, and it came as no surprise when Mark Moor phoned up on the Wednesday morning and cancelled the game.

Result: Game Cancelled

Saturday 31st May - Prattens - Home - 5 Rinks

Prattens could only manage to bring 3 rinks, so we played these 3 rinks and accomplished a resounding win.
Paul Aldus and his rink had a splendid win to take the money

Result: Banwell 64 shots - Prattens 26 shots

Thursday 5th June - Bridgwater - Away - 4 Rinks

A pleasant sunny evening to play Bridgwater in their centenary year.
But alas, they proved to be just a bit too strong for us and we went down on 3 of the 4 rinks
Tony Steer and his rink took the pot of money

Result: Banwell 62 shots - Bridgwater 89 shots

Sunday 8th June - Yatton - Away - 4 Mixed Rinks

I understand we went down on all 4 rinks.
This match will be remembered for the "Dropped Eight" by the Middle Aged Captain and his rink (C.Wilson, L.Smith, K & B Paige)
Graham Millard skipped the least losing rink to claim the money

Result: Banwell 57 shots - Yatton 94 shots

Thursday 12th June - Ashcombe - Home - 5 Rinks

Another fine win against local rivals Ashcombe - the Banwell team won on three of the five rinks to ensure victory
Alan Vickery guided his rink to the money

Result: Banwell 95 shots - Ashcombe 85 shots

Saturday 14th June - Paulton - Away - 5 Mixed Rinks
This game was cancelled - we only had eight names on the selection sheet!!
Tuesday 17th June - Ardagh - Away - 4 Rinks

Well we won on two rinks and lost on two riks, but still came second in the match
Jimmy Laurent skipped thw winning rink

Result: Banwell 61 shots - Adagh 78 shots

Thursday 19th June - St Andrews - Home - 4 Rinks

Perfect bowling weather, some wicked banter, and a game in which one rink dominated to give Banwell a good victory.
We won on two rinks drew on one and lost the other.
John Davies cruised to a 24 - 9 win to claim the money

Result: Banwell 74 shots - St Andrews 63 shots
